British Council Call for Applications: Culture Shift Project - ICT for Festivals Development


The British Council invites applications from interested technology developers, designers, arts and culture festival managers / directors , branding and marketing professionals, and business analysts for participation in its Culture Shift Project, themed ‘ICT for Festivals Development.’ 
 
About the project
  • Culture Shift is a partnership-led, British Council-managed competitive innovation fund. 
  • It will provide an opportunity for emerging creatives to bypass what are often the most inhibiting factors in the progression of good ideas – access to seed funding and expert mentorship.
  • Selected festival managers will work in collaboration with technology developers and designers, and business experts to create web and mobile solutions for use in festivals, and then compete for seed finance to realise the projects.
  • Winning idea will receive Naira Equivalent of £5,000 and two others £2,000 each.
For whom:
Software developers, designers (graphic, web and user-experience), festival managers / directors, branding and marketing professionals, and business analysts.
 
When:
The project will take place in three phases:
1.) Stage 1: 15th – 19th March 2012
  • a. 2 day Festivals Management workshop: 15th and 16th March (festival managers / directors only) 
  • b. 3-day ‘Hackathon’: 17th, 18th and 19th March
2.) Pitching for seed funding: 19th March 2012 
3). Mentoring and Fruition: April – September 2012

17th – 19th March – Co-Creation Hub (CCHub), 6th Floor, 294 Herbert Macaulay Way, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.

POSITION 1:

Applicants must: 
  1. Have a history of and familiarity with technology tools development
  2. Be willing to commit a few hours a week to the Culture Shift project, expected to last between 8 – 12 months. Applicants selected to receive the seed fund will be required to develop the final product from prototype stage.
 
POSITION 2:  Festival Managers / Directors 
  1. Applicants will be required to send a statement of intent, as well as detailed information about the festival they represent, to cep.nigeria@ng.britishcouncil.org, on or before Monday 05 March 2012.
  2. Applicants must work part time or full time in a management capacity in an existing *festival in the arts and culture industry in Nigeria. 
  3. Festivals represented by applicants must have taken place at least twice in the between 2007 and 2011, and be scheduled to take place again before the end of 2013.

British Council Nigeria Recruiting IELTS Examiners

The British Council in Nigeria is looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join our team of IELTS Examiners.

Outline:
Examiners conduct one to one interviews with IELTS candidates to assess their spoken English according to set requirements. Examiners also assess written scripts produced by candidates under exam conditions. Examiners are recruited on a casual basis and are expected to examine at least ten sessions a year at regular intervals. Remuneration is paid per interview/script. Weekend working is usually required. IELTS examinations regularly take place in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. Therefore, we are looking for examiners who live in, or within relatively easy reach of these cities. We may occasionally run examinations in other cities in Nigeria.

Requirements:
An undergraduate degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to an undergraduate degree.
A recognised qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) / Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) / or recognised equivalent as part of a recognised university award course.
At least 3 years full time (14 hours per week minimum or the equivalent part time) relevant TESOL/TEFL teaching experience (minimum one year post certificate level qualification). The majority of this teaching experience must relate to adult students (16 years and over).

Nigerian Qualifications include:
Either, a Nigerian 1st degree, an NCE in ELT plus relevant teaching experience and IELTS 9.0. Or Nigerian B.Ed in English Language Teaching (transcripts verify course content), relevant teaching experience plus IELTS 9.0. A first degree plus a Nigerian PGDE or M.Ed/MA in TESOL or TEFL (transcripts verify course content), plus relevant teaching experience and IELTS 9.0. If shortlisted, you will need to submit a transcript of the teaching course you attended.
